Junior Camp is designed for campers aged 6-10 who have never been to Grier Summer before, or just are not ready for three weeks of camp. During Junior Camp, campers arrive on Sunday afternoon and follow our daily schedule for four consecutive days and depart on Friday morning.
We recognize that campers in this age range sometimes require extra attention and guidance when attending to daily tasks such as hygiene and organization. We never assign more than six campers to a unit of campers in this age group, allowing for a high degree of personalized attention. With two counselors per unit, and no "days off" for staff, we maintain a 1:3 staff-camper ratio in the dormitories during the Junior Session.
Junior campers have an arrival day riding test just like the big girls. Horseback riding lessons are grouped according to experience and ability. Junior campers are at the barn all morning or all afternoon. All riders are invited to participate in a Grier Summer horse show on Friday morning, where everyone is a winner. Parents attend the horse show, and camper departure is by noon on Friday.
All Junior Campers participate in Grier Summer Players to practice for the Thursday evening performance. Junior campers select one other camp activity to fill their daily schedules. Activity choices typically include ourdoor sports, swimming, arts and crafts, and dance. Just as the big girl sessions, there is a Thursday evening performance that all parents are invited to attend!

Mother/Daughter Camp has a limited enrollment of 25 families for the 2012 camp season.
The Grier Summer Mother/Daughter Session is the perfect place to escape with your daughter and enjoy the beauty of Central Pennsylvania. Young, first-time campers have the opportunity to experience camp first-hand, without the anxiety of “leaving mom.” Campers must be aged 6 to 10, and all participants must be able to walk up and down stairs.
The Grier Summer Mother-Daughter Session is the perfect place to escape with your daughter and enjoy the beauty of Central Pennsylvania. Young, first-time campers have the opportunity to experience camp first-hand, without the anxiety of “leaving mom.” Campers must be aged 6 to 10, and all participants must be able to walk up and down stairs.
The mother-daughter session is not an intensive horseback riding weekend! It is an introduction to sleepaway camp, for girls and their mothers. Activities include swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, campfires, games, and social events. Some activities are specifically for children or adults, and other activities are for everyone together.
Adult guests may choose to participate in scheduled activities or engage in independent leisurely pursuits such as reading in our peaceful library or lounging by the pool...or maybe a riding lesson or trail ride.
Each family is housed in a dormitory suite, consisting of two bedrooms connected by a bathroom. Each bedroom contains two beds. A hot buffet is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Williamsburg-style dining room.
And, sometimes Mom just needs to put her feet up and relax!
