Intensive Dance Program
Grier Summer’s Intensive Dance Program is geared toward the serious intermediate to advanced dancer, ages 12-17. These campers take dance classes for two or three activity periods, depending on their level of dance experience. These classes include, but are not limited to, stretch and strength, ballet and jazz technique, and choreography for performance. Styles in performances have included ballet, classical jazz, African, lyrical, hip hop, and modern. The Intensive Dance Program is an international program with dancers from the US, Europe and Central and South America!
This piece was choreographed by Mrs. Hrzic to Lady Gaga "Poker Face."
All dance classes, as well as the final performance, take place in the 9,600 square foot Performing Arts Center on the Grier campus. With built-in seats for 280, a state-of-the-art floor and sound system, and a sliding separation wall, the Performing Arts Center is the perfect environment to spend the summer practicing and performing!
The Intensive Dance Program is led by Jocelyn Hrzic, Head of the Grier School’s Dance Department, choreographer, and coach of the school’s award-winning dance team. Mrs. Hrzic’s classes are designed to make the most of the three week session, and she strives to develop students’ strength, technique, musicality, and performance qualities. On arrival Sunday, all intensive dancers will audition with Joci for appropriate placement in the intensive program. Intermediate dancers will dance two activity periods, three hours, and advanced dancers will dance three activity periods, four and half hours...five days out of seven for the session.

Intensive Dance campers participate in all camp activities. The dancers can choose other activities to fill their day. Choices may include ceramics, mixed media, Grier Summer Players (theater), pool games, outdoor sports, creative writing or foreign language for fun. The Intensive Dance Camp is only offered during the first session of camp.

Grier's Performing Arts Center, which opened in July of 2006, divides with a track-mounted partition that effectively creates two very large dance studios of identical size with adjoining changing rooms and bathrooms. Both have theatre style seating. The value of this space is most evident on performance days when the partition separating the studios is retracted, opening up the space into one large performance floor space measuring 9,600 square feet. The lighting and sound systems for the center are of exceptionally high quality.
